Capcom published the previous two installments, but this one was released by Taito for their TypeX arcade hardware. A major change is that GWG uses a Tate (vertical) screen unlike the earlier titles. There is a considerable step up in enemy bullet counts and speed. Shooting enemies now causes “shot medals” to flake off of them. These don’t raise the hidden counter like reflect medals or kill medals, but they still add to your multiplier. Now reflecting bullets and grabbing medals also give you points. Reflect force ends with a “flash-out” which can kick back a few more bullets. Certain large enemies will have their bullets turned into shot medals when you kill them. An enemy’s kill value is decided by your distance from it at the time of shootdown. You get the max- 10000000 pts.- if you are at point-blank range. It can even be as low as 10 pts. if you’re too far back. GWG’s PS2 port lacks the tate mode and its “arcade” mode is instead played in a pillarboxed window. That results in the graphics being downrezzed and not looking as good. Unfortunately, GWG never saw formal release in arcades outside Japan. Yasushi Kaminishi returns as the BGM composer.
